Dating is a scary world when you’re 16, but anyone over the age of 55 will tell you that it’s even scarier in retirement. While it can be fun to date around and meet new people that you can spend time with, the fact is that it is quite terrifying to figure out how to go about meeting others and making that first date a success. Here are some tips to help make dating and meeting people a little less intimidating.
- Go to events in your area. Let’s be realistic. The odds of meeting someone in the streets is slim, so you should really check out singles events for your age group, activities that you enjoy where other singles will be, and events that cater to the active adult lifestyle.
- Use online dating services that are created especially for the more experienced crowd. You don’t have to be a computer genius to sign up for an account on these sites and you can meet a lot of great people who are just like you. If you want, have your kids or friends help you set things up if you aren’t sure where to start.
- Get out and do things. There is no shame in doing things on your own, and while you might not have high chances of just running into someone that is worthy of your attention, you never know who you might be. Be friendly and personable when you’re out in the world and you will make more friends and potential mates than you might realize.
- Don’t get discouraged. This is the time when you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself and everything that you’ve worked for. Don’t let yourself get down if dating doesn’t work out right away. It will happen.
