The Value of Retirement Staycations

Travel is the name of the game for a lot of people in retirement. What better time to get out and see the world than after you’ve spent years working hard to have this free time? Of course, not everyone is ready or able to hit the road and get out in the world. Staycations, or vacations where you simply take time off from ‘reality’ and stay home, are something that I have enjoyed myself and that a lot of people simply don’t appreciate.

It’s not about being cheap or just not wanting to go places. Trust me, I love to travel. However, there is plenty of value in taking time off from the actual goings on in the world and staying closer to home. Even if you just rent a hotel room in the nearest city, you’re still going to have a great time being a tourist in your own area. The thing about living somewhere is that you often don’t get out and see a lot of the ‘tourist’ type things that are around town. You are so caught up in living that you might not actually get time to see the things that make your city so neat to live in.

If you’re looking for a different way to have fun on a vacation, try being a tourist right at home. You’ll likely find all types of activities to get involved in, be able to learn more about how other people see your city or town, and relax without spending a fortune on getting away from it all. What you do on your staycation is up to you, entirely. All that you have to do is make sure that it’s not just another day in your average life. Forget the appointments, the daily routines, and all the ‘typical’ things that you do. Instead, get away from the real world and pretend like you’re visiting in your own home or close to it. You might be surprised at just how much fun you have without even leaving your city.
