Retirement is about having fun and doing things that you enjoy. If you’ve got a favorite sport or activity, or even if you want to take up something new, there’s plenty to choose from out there in the world. I’ve been active all my life, but I know some people haven’t been that lucky. Whether you’ve never had the time for sports and activities or if you’re just trying to find a way to spend your newfound free time, there’s plenty to choose from.
The best thing about staying active and getting involved in recreation is that there are so many clubs and fitness facilities that offer discounts to retirees. A lot of you are probably dreading the eligibility for what they typically call ‘senior citizen’ discounts, but you have to think of it as an opportunity. You’ve worked hard your entire life and the world is now going to thank you by offering you discounted rates on memberships, activities, and events that you can have a great time with. Take advantage of this!
What you can do:
Call your local golf club, fitness center, or other facility where you want to get involved or get a membership. Ask them about the discounts that they offer for retirees and seniors. You might be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it can be to have a great time if you’re willing to ask. Plus, while you’re learning a new sport or getting back into something that you once loved, you can meet a lot of great people and create great friendships, as well. It’s a win-win for everyone, so get out there and get active.
